Second Childhood is a unique discount children clothing business in Houston, Texas.  It was founded in 1987 by Shelley Horwitz who, with two toddlers of her own, was ready to take what she learned from working at the famous consignment shop, Baubles & Beads, and apply it to the children's clothing market.  As a result she welcomed a following of consignors and customers all of whom enjoyed the opportunity to optimize their hard-earned investment in their family's clothing.

Humble Beginnings

Second Childhood opened in April 1987 in a small 1400 square foot space across from West U Elementary ...  quickly becoming a neighborhood landmark.  In January 1990 a second, larger Second Childhood was opened, on Voss to serve the Memorial area. In November 2000, another store was opened near the Medical Center on the corner of Greenbriar at Holcombe.

Current Location

The concept is the same today, but a large stock of new clothing and baby furniture, as well as books and toys have added to the attraction.  And now the flagship store is conveniently located at Fountain View between Westheimer and San Felipe.

Community-Oriented

Second Childhood assists local schools and charities in fund-raising activities and regularly donates unsold merchandise to organizations such as Christian Community Services, Houston Area Women's Center and local churches.  In addition, Second Childhood is a charter member of the South Texas Association of Resale Shops (S.T.A.R.S.), organized to provide networking among its members and the promotion of the highest standards of customer service and quality merchandise.
